Does posting time still matter?
Algorithms now rank content by interest rather than strictly by time, but timing still matters. A post’s first hour of engagement helps the platform decide whether to show it to more people. Publishing when your followers are online and scrolling gives your content the best possible start.
The tricky part is time zones. If you live in London but most of your audience is in New York, the best time for them is five hours later for you. This planner handles the maths for you.
How to use the planner
- Choose a platform: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook or LinkedIn.
- Select where most of your audience is. Check your insights for top cities and countries.
- Confirm your own time zone (detected automatically).
- Read the weekly grid. Gradient slots are the strongest, purple are good, grey are okay.
- Test for 2–4 weeks and compare reach in your analytics.
General posting patterns by platform
- Instagram: mid-week mornings and early afternoons, plus early evenings, tend to be strongest.
- TikTok: evenings and late afternoons, when people relax after work or school.
- YouTube: early afternoon to evening on weekdays, and late mornings at weekends.
- Facebook: weekday mornings.
- LinkedIn: Tuesday to Thursday mornings, around the start of the working day.
These suggestions are based on typical audience activity patterns and are a starting point. Every audience is different: students, shift workers and parents scroll at different times.
Find your own best time
On Instagram, open your Professional Dashboard, go to Total followers and scroll to Most active times. On TikTok, open Analytics → Followers to see follower activity by hour. Post at the suggested times for a few weeks, note the reach of each post, then keep the slots that perform best. Consistency often matters more than finding a perfect minute.
💡 Turn your chosen slots into a full month of content with the Content Calendar Generator.
