What is a seamless carousel?
A seamless (or panoramic) carousel is a multi-image post where one long design is cut into equal slices. As followers swipe, the picture continues from one slide to the next, creating a satisfying, scroll-stopping effect. Travel creators use it for landscapes, brands for product launches and educators for step-by-step infographics.
Carousels are one of the most engaging post formats on Instagram because every swipe counts as an interaction and the algorithm may show the post again with a later slide. Instagram allows up to 20 images in a carousel; this splitter covers the most popular 2–10 slide range.
How to split an image for an Instagram carousel
- Upload a wide image — a panorama, a design canvas or a landscape photo.
- Choose the number of slides (2–10). The dashed lines on the preview show exactly where each cut falls.
- Pick the slide shape: 4:5 portrait fills the most screen space; 1:1 square is the classic format.
- Adjust zoom and vertical position to frame the most important part of the image.
- Download all slides as a ZIP, or save individual slides, then post them in order 1 → N in a single carousel.
Best image sizes for carousels
Every slide in a carousel shares the aspect ratio of the first one, so all slices must be the same size. For a 4:5 portrait carousel each slide is exported at 1080×1350 pixels; for square slides it is 1080×1080. That means a 3-slide 4:5 panorama needs a source image of roughly 3240×1350 pixels to stay perfectly sharp.
If your image is smaller, the splitter will scale it up to fill the frame. For the crispest result, start with the highest-resolution file you have and choose PNG output for graphics with text.
Design tips for swipe-worthy carousels
- Put a hook on slide 1. The first slide is your cover — make it intriguing enough to swipe.
- Let elements cross the seams. A line, a person or a shape that spans two slides makes the join feel intentional.
- Keep text away from edges. Leave a margin so words aren’t cut between slides.
- End with a call to action — “Save this” or “Follow for more” on the final slide.
