Tell stories with chat mock-ups
Text-message stories are a hugely popular content format: a short fictional conversation, revealed message by message, with a twist at the end. Creators use them for comedy skits, relationship stories, “POV” posts, customer-service parodies and teaching examples (“here’s how to reply to a brand that wants free content”).
This mock-up maker gives you a clean, generic messaging layout for DMs and a comment-thread layout for “comment of the day” style posts. You control every word, name and avatar.
How to create a chat mock-up
- Choose DM chat or Comments.
- Pick light or dark mode to suit your feed.
- Set a character name and, optionally, upload an avatar (a fictional character or illustration works best).
- Write the messages — toggle each one between Me and Them, add or delete lines, or enter usernames, comments and like counts.
- Download the PNG and use it in your Reel, carousel or Story.

Mock-ups are for creative, clearly fictional or educational content. Do not use this tool to impersonate real people or brands, fabricate evidence, deceive, defraud, harass or bully anyone, or create content that could be mistaken for a genuine conversation in a way that harms someone. Doing so may break the law and the rules of every major platform.
A good rule: if someone could be hurt or misled by thinking your mock-up is real, don’t post it. Label storytelling posts as fiction or skits in the caption, and use invented names and avatars. The layout is generic and not affiliated with any messaging app.
