Why plan your Instagram grid?
When someone taps your username, your profile grid is your shop window. In a couple of seconds they decide whether to follow. A cohesive grid — consistent colours, a mix of faces and graphics, no two similar posts side by side — makes your account look intentional and trustworthy.
A grid planner lets you test those decisions before they are live. Instead of posting, deleting and re-posting, you can arrange the next 6, 9 or 12 photos here, spot clashes and choose a running order that flows.
How to use the grid planner
- Add photos — select several images at once. The newest upload appears top-left, just like a fresh post.
- Rearrange — drag photos to reorder on desktop, or tap one photo and then another to swap them on mobile.
- Switch thumbnail shape between the current 3:4 grid and the classic 1:1 square to compare.
- Remove or shuffle photos until the pattern feels right.
- Download a preview PNG to share with a client or keep as your posting plan.
Popular Instagram grid layouts
Checkerboard: alternate photos with graphics or quotes so the grid reads as a pattern. Row by row: post three related images at a time so each row tells a mini story. Colour blocking: group posts by a dominant colour that shifts gradually. Puzzle: split one big image across several tiles with the Instagram Grid Maker.
Whichever layout you choose, consistency matters more than perfection. Use the same filter or editing style across posts — our Photo Filter Studio helps keep the look uniform.
Grid planning tips
- Plan in threes. Each row holds three posts, so work in batches of three.
- Balance busy and calm. Put a clean, simple image next to a busy one.
- Check thumbnails, not originals. At thumbnail size, details vanish — bold shapes and faces read best.
- Remember the 3:4 crop. Instagram now crops grid thumbnails to 3:4, so keep subjects central.
💡 Your photos are only held in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the preview disappears when you close the page.
